The animals and insects are going after the humans mercilessly, as it is the turn of huge bats to attack Thar region – an area already ravaged by locusts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
With wingspan of around four to five feet, these bat-zillas are found everywhere in Chachro town and surrounding areas. As a result, the locals are frightened and have killed several of them using firearms.
These mega-bats are found in tropical and subtropical areas of Africa and from southern and central Asia to Australia. Also known as flying foxes, mega-bats are up to 16 inches in length, can attain a wingspan of 5 feet and weigh up to three kilograms.
Both micro-bats and mega-bats are known for being reservoirs and vectors of a range of diseases and virus with the Covid-19 being the latest one which has paralysed the entire world.
But it is not for the first time that the mega-bats have attacked Sindh as a similar situation was witnessed in 2015 on a much wider area, destroying mangoes and dates farms which caused huge losses to the farmers.
Earlier in June, flocks of bat-zillas had destroyed mango orchards in many villages located along Chenab River in Multan, creating panic among the villagers as they saw their mango orchards being ravaged.
