In order to ensure merit in the distribution of tickets for the upcoming general elections, former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has hired the services of private firms for conducting secret surveys in the constituencies of those aspiring to become the party’s candidates in order to gauge their popularity, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
Quoting its sources, the channel reported that the PML-N supremo had directed that surveys be completed within next two weeks and their reports be submitted to the party’s Punjab leadership, which would then forward these to the party’s high command.
They added that the party would look for an alternate candidate in case the survey report showed that the candidate’s reputation in his or her constituency was bad.
Sources further said that the surveys would also ascertain how many National Assembly and provincial assemblies’ seats the party could win in the elections.
Furthermore, they disclosed, it would be on the basis of these surveys that the PML-N would decide on seat adjustment with other parties.
