Aitzaz Ahsan challenges trial of civilians in military courts

PPP leader and former federal minister Aitzaz Ahsan has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the trials of civilians in the military courts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Through the petition filed on Saturday, Aitzaz Ahsan prayed the court to declare trial of a civilian in a military court as unconstitutional and also annul the federal government’s decision in this regard.
He further said that the federal government by accepting a corps commander’s verdict in military court trials has acted as “rubber-stamp”.
Aitzad Ahsan also pleaded the apex court to invalidate Sections 2, 59 and 94 of the Army Act
The PPP leader also pleaded the court overthrow the verdicts to anti-terrorism courts to hand over accused to the military officials and order release of the civilians currently being trained by the military officials.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, law, interior and defence ministries, cabinet dievision, chief secretaries and inspectors general of all the provinces were made respondents in the petition.
