Lahore CIA Police, which had arrested Ahsan Shah, a close friend of the late Ameer Balaj Tipu on Sunday, will produce him in court today, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.
Ahsan had been arrested in connection with spying on Balaj and then passing on the information to those nominated in Balaj’s murder case in return for money.
Rejecting the police’s request for a 10-day physical remand of Ahsan, a court in Lahore had yesterday granted a five-day physical remand of Ahsan in the case, and ordered the police to produce him on March 23.
Earlier, Ahsan was presented in the court of Judicial Magistrate Sarwat Batul.
The police had argued that the suspect had been nominated in the light of the statement recorded under section 161 and that further interrogation was required.
On Saturday, Lahore Police arrested Ahsan, another suspect in the murder case of Balaj, the son of late underworld don Tipu Truckanwala.
He was arrested for allegedly sharing information with other suspects in the case about the whereabouts of Balaj in return for money.
As per reports, Ahsan was in Saudi Arabia when Tipu Truckanwala’s son was killed.
However, Ahsan’s family denied the allegation that he had received Rs5 million for the recce.
On Feb 19, a gunman, who was killed by Balaj’s security guard on the spot, entered the wedding ceremony in Lahore disguised as a guest, and opened fire at Balaj and two other guests, leaving them seriously injured.
The three victims were rushed to the Jinnah Hospital where the son of Tipu Truckanwala was pronounced dead.
It is recalled that his father Tipu Truckanwala was also killed in a gun attack at the Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore in 2010.
