Amid the surge in heatwave, people in Karachi, Peshawar and its suburbs took to the streets against power cuts, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.


While holding placards against the government, the protestors in Peshawar claimed that from 8 to 9 hours long load-shedding in urban areas was grinding business and domestic lives to a halt.


Moreover, the protestors said in the outskirts of Peshawar city, around 16 to 18 hours unannounced power outages was being carried out by the power distribution company. The protestors blocked University Road in Peshawar to register their protest. They urged the government to have mercy on the masses during scorching heatwave.


Due to prolonged outages, the people were of the view that their businesses were completely destroyed and they were facing water shortages at home. The protestors asked the government that they would not go home until the government controlled the loadshedding.


Meanwhile protestors took to the streets in Karachi’s Lions Area against K-Electric’s prolonged outages. The protestors blocked the main road against more than 12 hours long outage in the area.


However, K-Electrics has rejected the claim of prolonged outage in the city.


Spokesman of K-Electric, while denying the prolonged loadshedding claims by the protestors, said that the maximum duration of loadshedding was only 10 hours.


Spokesman said outage was being conducted as per the schedule given on the website of K-Electric, adding that loadshedding depended on the rate of power theft and line losses in the area.


K-Electric said electricity was being cut off in Lines Area of Karachi due to due to non-payment issues. The spokesman claimed that the amount owed to the disconnected defaulters of the area crossed Rs1.5 billion. The spokesman claimed that K-Electric was committed to provide smooth power supply to the residents of Karachi.
