Federal Health Services Minister Abdul Qadir Patel listed Pakistan’s feats in the war on polio at the World Health Summit on Polio in Berlin, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Tuesday.
According to a ministry spokesperson, Patel said that despite the ravages of floods in Pakistan, the government continued all possible efforts to eradicate polio.
“More than 27 polio workers have laid down their lives to make Pakistan polio-free. Pakistan forces are providing full support for the cause,” the minister said heaping praise on the Pak Army for its role in the anti-polio fight.
Mufti of Jamia Al-Azhar University Sheikh Al-Arab Professor Dr. Tayyab's fatwa is a message for Muslims that depriving children of their health rights is against the teachings of Islam.
“We are very close to polio eradication. The world should stand with Pakistan. Pakistan is ensuring the most effective measures,” he added.
A German minister, Sonja Schulz, stressed said that there is no safe place in the world if we do not eradicate polio completely.
Polio combat aid
Germany announced 23 million euros for global polio eradication and France 50 million euros for global polio eradication.
Saudi Arabia promised one billion dollars, Bill Gates 1.2 billion dollars, Australia 43.55 million dollars, and Korea 3.2 million dollars for the cause.
Speakers at the moot heaped praise on the Pakistan polio workers calling them real heroes. Ambassador Dr Faisal and Major General Aamir Ikram were also present in the delegation of Pakistan.
