A court in Islamabad on Monday sought a report from District Jail, Attock superintendent on the failure of the jail administration to arrange former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s telephonic talk with his sons despite court order, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Judge of Official Secrets Court Abu al Hasnat Zulqarnain heard the petition filed by the PTI chairman, seeking court order to the jail superintendent to arrange his telephonic conversation with his sons Qasim Khan and Suleman Khan.

Prosecutor Raja Naveed and PTI’s lawyer Sheeraz Ranjha appeared in the court.

Speaking on the occasion, Ranjha said all prisoners in the jail, barring Imran, had been provided the facility to talk to their family members on telephone. “Former prime minister is not a convict in the US cipher case as yet,” he said, adding, “In fact he is in Attock jail on a judicial remand.”

He argued that Punjab jail laws and those under the Secrets Act applied only to convicts, and not suspects.

Calling it an injustice with Imran, his lawyer prayed to the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the jail superintendent.

The judge said he would himself talk to the superintendent on the subject. “The possibility that the matter would be settled in that meeting cannot be ruled out,” he remarked.

The court adjourned the case’s hearing until September 28.

Two weeks ago, a special court in Islamabad had granted permission to former prime minister Imran Khan – currently held at Attock Jail - to speak to his sons.

Imran, who is 70-year-old, had filed a petition before Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain, seeking permission to speak to his sons on the phone.

Judge Zulqarnain approved the plea and instructed the prison authorities to arrange the telephonic conversation between the applicant and his sons in accordance with the law.
