Remembering Mir Murtaza Bhutto on his 70th birth anniversary

The 70th birth anniversary of Mir Murtaza Bhutto, son of former Prime Minister Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, is being commemorated today, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
According to the channel report, Murtaza Bhutto was the founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (Shaheed Bhutto Group). Born on September 18, 1954, in Karachi, Murtaza Bhutto was named after his grandfather, Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto.
He began his early education at St Mary's Academy and completed his O-Levels from Karachi Grammar School in 1971. In 1972, he attended Harvard University for his undergraduate studies, followed by a master's degree from Oxford University.
In 1979, after the execution of his father, Mir Murtaza Bhutto, alongside his younger brother Shahnawaz Bhutto, founded the organisation Al-Zulfiqar.
In the 1993 elections, he was elected as a member of the Sindh Assembly from Larkana. Upon returning to Pakistan during his sister Benazir Bhutto's government, he was arrested but later released on bail to take his oath as a member of the Sindh Assembly.
Tragically, on September 20, 1996, Murtaza Bhutto was assassinated near his residence at 70 Clifton in Karachi while returning from a rally.
