Increase in electricity prices by Rs3.15 per unit is likely as the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) filed an application in the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
If increased, this would put an additional burden of Rs30 billion on the consumers.
In its application, the CPPA informed that 10 billion units of electricity was produced in the country in March, 2022 at the cost of Rs94 billion. “Rs22.52 per unit most expensive electricity was produced from the Furnace Oil; that produced from the LNG cost Rs14.36 per unit; the electricity imported from Iran cost Rs17.35 per unit while the line losses cost 27 paisa per unit. NEPRA will now hear the application on April 27.
