Rumours about poisonous gas spread in the city, as ships carrying soybean again started docking at the Karachi Port with police saying that situation is normal in Kemari, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday morning.

Although three persons were brought to a hospital, they experienced breathing issues only because of the weather, the police said.

It is MV Mega Benefit – a bulk carrier built two years ago and sailing under the flag of Panama – which has arrived at the port from New Orleans, the United States.

Late on Friday night, KPT (Karachi Port Trust) Chairman Nadir Mumtaz Warraich and the GM Operations arrived at the port and inspected the process of cargo handling.

Officials said the cargo was being handled according to international standards and no one faced any breathing problem, as the KPT Twitter account posted a tweet on this subject.

Earlier in February, over a dozen people had died in Kemari – a residential locality adjacent to the port – as many people rushed to hospitals complaining of breathing difficulties after leakage of toxic gas.

Later, the government had said that it was due to the dust particles spreading out of a ship carrying soybean which caused the incident.
