Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman has directed Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi to take a vote of confidence, 24NewHD TV channel reported on Monday.
“As a Governor, I agree that Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has lost the confidence of the majority of the House.
“Therefore, under Article 130 (7) of the Constitution, I call for a meeting of the Punjab Assembly on December 21 at 4 pm in which the CM takes a vote of confidence,” the governor directed.
Reports have been pointing out that Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has lost the trust of his party president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and his members.
For the past few weeks, there have been serious differences between the two ruling coalition parties regarding political strategy, dissolution of the assembly, development schemes and transfer of government officials.
The CM included a member of the Punjab Assembly, Khyal Ahmed, in his cabinet, but the PTI chairman expressed ignorance about it, which clearly shows the differences between the two parties.
Moreover, Sardar Hasnain Bahadur tendered his resignation after a verbal clash. Chief Minister Elahi said in a TV interview on December 4 that he will not dissolve the assembly til March.
This statement of the Chief Minister was against the policy of coalition partner PTI, leading to the resignations of another 2 members.
On December 17, the Chief Minister criticized Imran Khan in an interview for his comments against the former army chief.
There is a very small numerical difference between the government alliance and the opposition alliance in the House.
