Two youth died as heavy rain and snowfall brought chill back to the weather in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and various areas of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan while downpour coupled with thunderstorms hit various Punjab cities on Monday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.


The heaviest snowfall was reported in Upper Dir’s Kumrat Kalkot area while rain disrupted routine life in Bara, Jamrud, Landi Kotal and Tirah Valley in Khyber District. The rain and snowfall were reported in Chitral, Diamir area of Gilgit Baltistan, causing problems for residents.


Two die in landslides


Two young men died when they were caught up in landslides triggered by heavy rains in Azad Kashmir and Swat.


An eighth class student was hit by stones during a landslide caused by heavy rains in Hattian Bala city of Azad Kashmir.


The victim, identified as Atif son of Abid Shah, was going to his school in Shariyan from Gahal Sachian to take an exam when he was caught up in the landslide.


The second incident occurred in Swat where an avalanche triggered by heavy rain and snowfall swept away a house in Faizabad area, taking life of a young man.


Movement restricted


Rain and snowfall also restricted movement at various tourist destinations including Galliyat, Thandyani, Shogran, Kaghan and Naran.


According to locals, Thandyani, Nathiagali, Ayubia, Dongagali in district Abbottabad, and Shogran in district Mansehra received up to four inches of snow, while in Naran snowfall exceeded 10 inches.


Rain was also reported in different areas of Punjab including Lahore, Gujrat, Narowal, Wazirabad, Nowshera Virkan, Malikwal and Sangla, Kharian, Nankana Sahib and surrounding areas.


The Met Office said rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over mountains) will continue in various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, north Balochistan, Murree, Galliyat and upper/central Punjab for the next 24 hours.


Met office said a strong westerly wave was griping upper/central parts of the country from Sunday. The heavy rain and snowfall continues in Neelum valley, Bagh, Poonch and Havelian regions of Azad Kashmir.


Moderate to heavy rain-wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over the hills) was reported on Monday in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Bajaur, Kurram, Waziristan, Kohat and Bannu which was expected to continue during next 24 hours with occasional gaps.


Rain-wind/thunderstorm was also reported in Balochistan’s areas including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, and nearby areas. There were chance of light rain in parts of Karachi.
