The government has decided to appoint Shahid Ashraf Tarar as the chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Shahid Ashraf Tarar is a retired grade-22 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS). He has been FPSC Member since January 18, 2021.
A notification from the Establishment Division regarding his appointment as the FPSC chairman is likely today.
The post of the FPSC chairman has been vacant since the retirement of former FPSC chairman Capt (r) Zahid Saeed on December 15, 2022.
Due to the non-appointment of the chairman, important matters including the Central Selection Board meeting have been pending for the last seven months.
The selection board makes recommendations for the promotion of federal officers in grades 20 and 21. The FPSC chairman presides over the selection board meeting.
It is to be noted here that the FPSC is a body that recruits officers to run the administrative affairs of the federal government.
