Marriyum sees screen tourism as best way to spread Pakistan's narrative

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said she was pleased with the revival of the country's film industry thanks to the current government's prudent policies.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the federal minister addressed the winners of the National Amateur Film Festival Awards in Islamabad on Sunday.
Emphasizing the privileges granted by the government to the film industry, she said that film industry revenues and imported equipment related to film and theatre production were tax-free while cinemas' earning has also been made tax-free for the next 10 years.
The minister said that corporate businessmen are also being encouraged to invest in the film industry to strengthen it.
She said the government had also announced Rs2 billion for the film finance fund to provide grants to emerging filmmakers in the country.
Highlighting film tourism as the best way to encourage storytelling in the country, the minister said a series of tax breaks for the film industry and film finance fund would not only add value but also fill gaps in the industry.
The minister said that several private educational institutions, including LUMS, NUST and Iqra, have introduced film and theatre production as majors in the country.
The minister asked the participants that a rich career awaits them as education in this field is also offered in the academies of Radio Pakistan and the Pakistan Academy of Television and News Services.
