The Supreme Court of Pakistan Monday served notices to respondents including the federal government in a case against the imposition of alleged extra taxes on electricity bills.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah heard the case. The petitioners’ lawyer adopted the stance that further and extra taxes could only be imposed on unregistered institutions, adding that his clients have already been paying GST taxes. The registration law couldn’t be applied on petitioner institutions, he contended.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said that the court was serving notices to respondents to hear them at the next hearing. Further hearing of the case was then adjourned till April 25.
