Former foreign minister and National Assembly speaker Gohar Ayub Khan who breathed his last on Friday was laid to rest in Haripur on Saturday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

A large number of people including politicians attended Namaz-i-Janaza of Gohar Ayub, father of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Umar Ayub Khan, at his native village Rehana.

Those who attended the funeral included Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Babar Awan, Ali Jadoon, Yousuf Ayub Khan, Akbar Ayub Khan and others.

Talking to the media men, Umar Ayub Khan said that his father passed away last night and it was a sad day for their family.

Umar Ayub said his father had represented the people of Haripur in the National Assembly. He said that his father was also a Ghazi of the 1971 war and the speaker of the National Assembly.

He also said that he would try to follow in his footsteps.
