PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday said the sole focus of the government was to crush the opposition, which had been trying to arrest Shehbaz Sharif.

He said the entire official machinery was busy in fabrication of bogus cases, but added that they were neither afraid of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) nor jail.

Addressing a press conference along with party leaders Marriyum Aurangzeb and Musadik Malik, the former prime minister said Shehbaz could be and would be arrested but at least the reason for the move must be shared.

Calling for live telecast of interrogation of Shehbaz on April 22, he said the people should know what kind of grilling was being done.

The PML-N president is being summoned again and again despite the fact that the courts proved him innocent in an earlier case, said Abbasi, adding that the NAB couldn’t present evidence against him before the court.

The Supreme Court had observed that the NAB cases were based upon ill-intentions, recalled the former prime minister.

He said the NAB earlier tried unsuccessfully to implicate the PML-N president in the Ashiana and Saaf Pani cases.

The NAB should ask Prime Minister Imran Khan for the details of his assets, Abbasi said, adding that his aide on accountability, Shahzad Akbar, had arranged a false story published in Daily Mail.

He said the Bureau wasn’t able to notice the sugar, flour and State Bank scandals, adding that the country could not be run through such rulers and the NAB-like institutions.
