Punjab Chief Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday visited the flood-affected areas of Kasur and met with the people there, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

He directed the administration of Ganda Singhwala, a town close to border with India, to keep the concerned departments posted about the inflow and discharge of water in River Sutlej.

The CM also directed the administration to arrange food items for the victims.

The chief minister also visited relief camps set up in the area.

He ordered the secretary irrigation to utilize all resources to further strengthen embankments.

He said that it was after 35 years that the water level in the river had reached 278,000 cusecs. “Section 144 has been imposed in these areas in order to prevent the loss of human lives,” CM Naqvi said, and ordered that the evacuation of people as well as cattle from these areas should be ensured at all costs since there was no substitute for a human life. “Use boats to shift the people to safer places if not possible through other means,” he directed.

The CM also ordered provision of fodder to animals.

He praised the local administration, police and the irrigation department officials and employees for participating in relief and rescue activities.

He, on the occasion, also announced a special package for the family of the irrigation department’s deceased employee.

Later in a tweet, the chief minister said that today he visited the flood-affected areas of Kasur to review the situation arising out of 278,000 cusecs of water released into the River Sutlej by India.

He appreciated the efforts made by the district administration, Rescue 1122, police and the irrigation department officials to rescue the people.
