The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore Director Sarfraz Ahmed Virk has said that the agency is in contact with 10 people out of 12 survivors of the Greece boat tragedy, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Monday, he said that 47 families have been contacted after receiving information from the migrants.
He said that the agency has contacted Interpol for the arrest of the agents relating to the boat tragedy.
He held that a total of six FIRs have been registered against the agents involved in the accident, adding that four human traffickers have also been arrested in this case while the mastermind’s agents are already in jail.
Talha Shahzaib, Waqas, Sajid Mehmood, and Shabbir are among the arrested accused, he hinted.
FIA Director zone one revealed that the route that has come up is via Dubai, Libya, and then Italy.
The director further disclosed that the boat that met the accident was going to Italy and the tragedy happened due to the boat breaking down near the borders of Greece.
SSP Sarfraz said that the migrants go to Libya by getting a direct visa of Libya from Pakistan or Dubai. “After reaching Libya, they illegally go to Italy and agents have sent people by sea due to the strict vigilance of the land route.
The senior police officer said after the investigation, it came to know that the agents charge $5,000 to $7,000 for Italy.
He regretted that plaintiffs do not act against the arrested accused. He said that as per law, the punishment is 14 years for sending people abroad illegally, but the main reason for not being punished is the lack of interest of the plaintiffs in the case.
