A speeding train has crushed to death at least 50 sheep and half a dozen cows at the Chani Goth area of Ahmedpur East, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing scene as a herd of sheep attempted to cross the Abbasia Link Canal Bridge when a train- Hazara Express from Rawalpindi to Karachi mercilessly crushed them along the tracks.
The blame game ensued among locals, attaching the incident to both the negligence of the shepherd and the alleged oversight by railway staff. Witnesses claimed that the shepherd's failure to guide the animals safely across the bridge played a role, while also accusing railway personnel of allowing the animals to pass through a forbidden area.
The livestock, valued in millions of rupees, had been transported from Sindh to Punjab and constituted the sole source of livelihood for their owners. This tragic incident not only resulted in a significant loss of animals but also dealt a severe blow to the economic well-being of those who depended on them.
