Senator Ayub Afridi on Wednesday presented his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan presumably vacating his Senate seat for PM Advisor on Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Sources informed Mr Afridi who was elected as senator from FATA called on Prime Minister Khan at the PM House and handed in his resignation to him. Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser were also present on the occasion.

The premier appreciated Mr Afrid’s services for the nation.

Sources informed that all consultations regarding electing Tarin as a senator have been completed.

The resignation of Mr Afridi would be submitted to the Senate Secretariat later today which would accept it after verifying it.

Mr Afridi is the cousin of Senate Deputy Chairman Mirza Afridi.

Mr Tarin completed his six-month tenure as finance minister on Oct 18. The government had tried to elect him as a senator before completion of his term as finance minister but it failed to do so. The government then made Mr Tarin as PM advisor on finance and revenue.

Currently, Mr Tarin is engaged in talks with the International Monetary Fund in the USA for the salvage of Fund’s stalled $6 billion loan programme for Pakistan.
