Biden names Donald Blome as new US ambassador to Pakistan

President Joe Biden has appointed career diplomat Donald Blome as the new US ambassador to Pakistan – a post vacant for a long time, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

The appointment will only be finalised after the US Senate endorses it which is yet to take place.

The White House announced that President Joe Biden wants to nominate career diplomat Donald Armin Blome as his next envoy to Pakistan. Bloom, who is currently the US ambassador to Tunisia, is fluent in Arabic.

Prior to this, Donald Blome was posted as the US Charge d’affaires at the Libyan Foreign Office in Tunis, the Consul General at the US Consulate in Jerusalem and the Director of the Office of Arabian Peninsula Affairs at the US State Department. He has also served as Political Counsel, the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, and the Minister-Consultant for Economic and Political Affairs at the US Embassy in Cairo, Egypt.

Earlier in his career, Blome served as Citizen Co-Director, Multinational Force Strategic Engagement Cell, Baghdad, Political Counsel, Embassy of Kuwait, and Israel Desk Officer, Deputy Director and Acting Director, Office of Israel and Palestinian Affairs.

Donald Blome graduated from the University of Michigan and can speak Arabic fluently. His appointment to Pakistan is still awaiting approval from the US Senate.

It should be noted that there has been no US ambassador to Pakistan for a long time. Angela Eagler is currently serving as moderator.
