Earlier this year, Spotify launched EQUAL, a global music programme dedicated to boosting the volume of women artists. It has now launched Spotify Talks, a new digital series covering difficult conversations. The first episode is devoted to praising being a female artist and the impact of EQUAL.
Anoushey Ashraf will host the premiere episode of Spotify Talks, which will feature singer, songwriter, philanthropist, and well-known figure Momina Mustehsan, who is EQUAL Pakistan's ambassador for the month of September. They will also be joined by multifaceted stars Natasha Baig and Zoha Zuberi, who were EQUAL Pakistan ambassadors for the months of July and June, and Rutaba Yaqub, Spotify's music manager for Pakistan.
The "Women in Music" episode examines the difficulties faced by female artists in Pakistan and considers how the field of female musicians has changed over time. These leaders of Pakistan's female audio industry will sit down for an open discussion and share snippets of their journeys as well as how Spotify has acted as a platform to support their global recognition and elevate their work.
“It’s my honor to be representing the women musicians of our country in September. Pakistani women in music are resilient – they manage to bring their own seats to the table despite limited opportunities by proving their abilities to extents that cannot be ignored.” Momina Mustehsan said.
“Platforms like Spotify are crucial for that. They serve as equalizers to tackle systemic inequalities historic to conventional broadcast. A program like EQUAL helps extend a seat to a global table, with the purpose of passing it forward for others to join.” She added.
Momina's soul-stirring song "Tera Woh Pyar (Nawazishein Karam)," from Coke Studio Season 09, is featured as part of the programme on the EQUAL Pakistan playlist and EQUAL Global, enabling more people hear her music globally.
On Monday, September 26 at 4:00 PM, the Spotify Talks site will host the first session. As EQUAL Ambassadors offer their experiences and advice on how to succeed in the music business, listeners can expect a humorous but meaningful conversation.
