Former prime minister, Leader of the Opposition in Senate, and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani on Monday announced that PPP would move the court against the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022, or PECA, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he said the government had developed the habit of issuing ordinances because it did not trust the country’s parliament. “This particular ordinance was promulgated to stifle dissent by harassing media and politicians,” he alleged.
He dispelled the impression that there were cracks between the opposition parties, saying they all were united inside as well as outside the parliament.
He stressed that the ‘establishment’ should be neutral.
Gilani made it clear that the opposition’s plan to bring a no-confidence move against the government in the National Assembly (NA) was by no means undemocratic.
