FIA unearths mega corruption scam of customs officers in Karachi

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) unearths a mega scam of custom officers corruption in Karachi, reported 24NewsHD TV channel Thursday.
According to details, the customs officers were alleged to buy gold to cover up their bribes from a Clifton area jewellery shop.
The customs officers have allegedly bought 500 tolas of gold from the said jewellery shop from the bribe money.
FIA raided the jewellery shop and recovered the sale and purchase receipts from the shop.
Sources say that the gold was purchased under the receipts carrying no name of the purchasers.
The FIA team has also recovered account registers from the shop as well.
According to sources, FIA also recovered Rs5million paid to the jeweller as an advance to purchase more gold.
The FIA team also raided the Kemari residence of a customs officer who is accused of purchasing gold for the other officers of the department.
FIA also took two customs officers Yawar Abbas and Tariq Mahmood into custody over corruption charges.
