As Multan Sultans prepare for another Pakistan Super League (PSL) season, franchise owner Ali Khan Tareen is making bold moves to revolutionize cricket in Pakistan. The team has hired Nathan Andrew Leamon, a Cambridge-educated cricket strategist and the brains behind England’s Test team, as their lead strategist.
Additionally, Multan Sultans have broken new ground by bringing in Catherine Dalton as a fast-bowling coach, marking the first time the franchise has appointed a female coach.
Nathan Leamon Joins Multan Sultans as Lead Strategist
Leamon, known for his analytical approach to cricket, has previously worked with England’s Test team and the Indian Premier League’s Kolkata Knight Riders. He is also the author of Hitting Against the Spin, a book exploring cricket strategy and data analytics.
Commenting on his appointment, Leamon said, “There is an idea that data and analysis take the fun out of the game. I have never found that to be the case. You can use numbers badly to do that, but I think it only makes cricket more fascinating. We are only scratching the surface of what we can learn from the data we have.”
With Leamon’s expertise, Multan Sultans aim to implement cutting-edge analytics, enhancing tactical decision-making and optimizing player performance for the upcoming PSL season.
Catherine Dalton’s Historic Appointment as Multan Sultans’ First Female Coach
In another landmark decision, Catherine Clare Dalton, a former Ireland and England A cricketer, has joined Multan Sultans as a fast-bowling coach. This marks the first time a female coach has been appointed by the franchise.
Dalton, along with Leamon, recently visited the Janoobi Cricket Academy in Lodhran, an initiative operated by Ali Khan Tareen to develop grassroots cricket talent in South Punjab. As part of her visit, Dalton conducted specialized coaching sessions for a girls’ cricket team, a move hailed as a significant step in promoting women’s sports in the region.
Born March 8, 1989, in Lahore, Ali Khan Tareen is more than just a cricket administrator—he is a dynamic business leader and social entrepreneur. He is the only son of Jahangir Khan Tareen, a renowned businessman, philanthropist, and agricultural innovator.
Jahangir Tareen’s business empire spans sugarcane, fruit, and vegetable farming, corporate agriculture, and renewable energy production. Through the Tareen Foundation, he has played a vital role in education, healthcare, and rural development in South Punjab.
Ali Khan Tareen, following in his father’s footsteps, is transforming Pakistan’s cricket landscape while also leading major business and philanthropic initiatives. As Multan Sultans integrate data analytics and champion women’s cricket, Tareen’s forwardthinking leadership continues to shape the future of the sport in Pakistan.
