Claiming that Karachi mayor from the PPP could do much better for the city, Sindh Minister for Labour and PPP Karachi division President Saeed Ghani said on Sunday that Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman was ‘Altaf Hussain in the making’, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, he said that just like PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman was also ‘frustrated’.
So much so, he added, that Naeem did not remember how many seats his party had won in the recently held local bodies’ (LBs) elections in Sindh.
He claimed there was a split in the PTI over support for the JI’s candidate for the seat of Karachi mayor. “The JI does not even have 86 seats,” he said, adding that there were total 193 members of both the JI and the PTI in the KMC. “But since opinion is divided in the PTI over supporting the JI nominee for the seat of Karachi mayor, not all members of the former will vote for the latter’s candidate,” Ghani said, adding, “The PPP, on the other hand, has 174 LBs representatives; all of whom will vote for their party’s candidate.”
The minister said Imran, who had built an anti-US narrative ever since he was removed from the PM office over a year ago, had been caught recently convincing a US woman that his entire narrative was ‘false’.
Speaking on the occasion, Senator Waqar Mehdi said that four to five persons had submitted their applications to the PPP’s high command so far for winning the candidature for the seat of Karachi mayor, but no name had been finalized as yet.
