Ex-Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha on Thursday recorded his statement before the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) committee formed to investigate the claims he had made at a presser a few days ago, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sources told 24News TV channel that the committee had yesterday sent a notice to Chattha to record his statement.
The senior bureaucrat had on Saturday alleged that the chief election commissioner and the chief justice were involved in rigging the general elections held on February 8.
The startling revelations came at a time when the former ruling party, the PTI, began nationwide protests against alleged rigging and stealing of its mandate in the elections.
Speaking to reporters at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Chattha had said the candidates who were “losing” the elections “were made to win”.
He had further said that he was taking the responsibility for all this wrongdoing.
Chattha resigned from his office after "accepting responsibility" for manipulation of poll results.
Chattha went on to say that “stabbing the country in its back does not let him sleep”.
“I should be punished for the injustice I have done and others who were involved in this injustice should also be punished,” he said.
The former bureaucrat said there was so much “pressure” on him that he contemplated suicide but then decided to lay bare the secrets before the people.
