Pakistan on Sunday said its embassy in Beijing was in touch with the family of the deceased female Pakistani student in China, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In her statement on a delay in the return of the corpse of the student to Pakistan, Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said some legal procedures had to be followed for the return of bodies from China.

She said arrangements had to be made for the preservation of the bodies brought to the country on board commercial flights. “Only when these arrangements are complete that the bodies are sent to their native countries,” she explained.

Mumtaz said that after the intervention of Pakistan’s embassy, the insurance company had shown its readiness to pay compensation to the family of the student. “It is following this intervention that the university has offered to bear the expenses for the transportation of the body to Pakistan,” the FO spokesperson said, and added, “The country’s embassy in China is working to make sure that the procedure is followed before the corpse could be sent back home on board the first available flight of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).”
