Karachi Police, in collaboration with Balochistan Police, finally arrested the alleged murderers of senior journalist Athar Mateen from Khuzdar, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

Giving details, police said Abid Ali s/o Muhammad Amin was taken into custody in Civil Colony while he was trying to flee clad in women’s clothes.

Police also carried out raids in other parts of Khuzdar city.

In one of the raids in Ashraf Ali Bangalzai Khund area, Ashraf Ali, the suspect, managed to escape on seeing police.

Police also claimed to have arrested three other persons in connection with the murder of the journalist from Karachi.

Yesterday, on Tuesday (February 22, 2022), 24News reported that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had said that the police had traced the whereabouts of the killers of journalist Athar Mateen.

Talking to media after returning from Mateen’s home in Karachi where he had gone to offer his condolences, he said that the journalist’s murderers would not go unpunished.

He informed the provincial government was planning to enact laws in order to make it difficult for street criminals to get bail from the courts.

Athar Mateen, a senior producer at Samaa TV, was shot dead in North Nazimabad area of Karachi around five days back on February 18 when unidentified men targeted him and sprayed his car with bullets near Haideri in North Nazimabad. He received three to four bullets in his body which caused his death.

The tragic incident happened at 8:29am when the journalist was coming back after dropping his daughters at school. On the road, he saw that two dacoits were trying to snatch a motorcycle from a citizen. A car rider hit the muggers who fell down on the road and the rider drove away. Athar Mateen did the same and hit them. But this time round, the street criminals opened fire on the car and the journalist was hit by their bullets. In a severely injured condition, he was taken to the Saifi Hospital where he breathed his last.
