In the Nasla Tower Case, the Anti-Corruption department has arrested Sindhi Muslim Society (SMS) Secretary Naveed Bashir on Sunday.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the SMS secretary was arrested by the anti-corruption officials in Case Number 1/2022.
The Karachi police have already arrested three men in connection with the Nasla Tower case last month. Those arrested included Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General (DG) Asif Memon, Atif Lamba, and are facing charges of occupying lands in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Korangi areas of the city.
The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan had, on June 16, 2021, ordered the immediately razing to the ground of the 11-storey residential building, Nasla Tower, located at Karachi's Sharae Quaideen.
During a marathon hearing of the petitions filed against encroachments in the megacity at the Karachi Registry, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed issued the orders for the demolition.
Rejecting the pleas of the builder and the residents, the apex court declared the building illegal.
The CJP said the China cutting was being carried out in such a way in Karachi that people occupied more land than what they possessed.
Justice Ijazul Hassan said that the KMC report showed that some area was used illegally by the Nasla Tower. He said part of the building was constructed on the service road. Not only the service road but Shahra-e-Faisal was also gobbled by the building.
Chief Justice Gulzar said that the building had encroached upon the footpath.
