SC directs govt to sit with Dr Abdul Qadeer to discuss scientist’s free movement restrictions

Supreme Court Tuesday directed Attorney General of Pakistan and Nuclear Scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan to sit together and solve scientist’s free movement restrictions issues, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported.
Justice Faisal Arab, hearing the Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan free movement case, said: “I suggest that the position of both sides be heard in this chamber. This is a matter of an individual’s rights and national interest.” He said that media should also report this case responsibly.
Justice Yahya Afridi said it would be better if the government sits with Dr Qadeer Khan as Dr Qadeer would want some concessions and the government should talk to him.
Justice Yahya Afridi said Dr Abdul Qadeer needs some facilities. Justice Yahya Afridi said Dr Qadeer Khan is a national hero and his services cannot be forgotten.
Justice Mushir Alam said there have some limitations of the government and Dr Sahib should consider them. “Let them tell by the government as Dr Sahib says that he is not allowed to meet relatives and dear relatives,” Justice Faisal Arab said.
Tawfiq Asif, lawyer of Dr Qadeer Khan, said he will play his due role in this matter and Dr Abdul Qadeer is a man of conscience and if government talks to him, the problem will be solved.
The case hearing has been adjourned for three weeks.
It is pertinent to note that nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan in December 2019 filed this petition in the Supreme Court, seeking enforcement of his fundamental rights, including free movement across the country.
