Punjab cabinet approves LB elections on party basis in 2022

The Punjab cabinet Tuesday approved a new local government system with a commitment to conducting the local bodies’ elections on a party basis in the province next year.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the draft of the law regarding the local government system was presented in the cabinet meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Tuesday.
According to the draft of the law of the new local government system, candidates for mayor and district council chairman, Neighborhood Council and Village Council elections will also be held on a party-based.
The draft said that the mayor would form his cabinet having at least two female members while he has been given the charge of different public departments like PHA, Development Authorities, WASA, TEPA Waste Management Companies, District Health, Education, Social Welfare, District Population and Sports authorities.
As per the draft of the law, the local government system will have 11 metropolitan corporations including Sialkot and Gujarat.
The local government system will also have youth seats and Panchayat Village Councils. Now, after the approval of the cabinet, the draft would be tabled in the Punjab Assembly.
