The Official Secrets Act Court on Thursday ordered the police to produce former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan and PTI stalwart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the court on November 28 in connection with US cipher case, 2023, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain heard the case at Islamabad’s Judicial Complex rather than at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi in the light of the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) verdict in which it had declared the jail trial of PTI chairman in the case null and void.
During the proceedings on Thursday, a copy of the court’s order was presented to the judge.
The judge remarked that from today the case’s trial would start from the position where it was before August 29, 2023.
Ali Bukhari, Taimoor Malik and Khalid Yousaf, counsels for both Imran and Qureshi, appeared in the court.
The court then adjourned the case’s hearing until November 28.
As a result of the IHC’s verdict, which it gave on Tuesday, Imran and his aide Qureshi’s Oct 23 indictments in the case also stood null and void.
The verdict, which was reserved earlier in the day, was issued on an intra-court appeal filed by Imran against a single-member bench’s decision, approving his jail trial in the cipher case.
Bushra Bibi withdraws plea
Bushra Bibi, wife of Imran Khan, has withdrawn a petition filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking details of cases against her and barring authorities from arresting her.
IHC’s Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri disposed of the petition on the basis of withdrawal.
