The National Assembly session Tuesday chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq witnessed heated discussions as the leader of the opposition Omar Ayub Khan expressed grave concerns about the recent voting process, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking on the National Assembly floor, PTI senior leader Ayub revealed that he had submitted three to four questions to the Assembly Secretariat but had yet to receive satisfactory responses. He urged the speaker to instruct the Sergeant-at-Arms to inspect CCTV footage, alleging irregularities during the voting process.
According to Omar Ayub, members of intelligence agencies had infiltrated the assembly disguised in uniform when the 26th Constitutional Amendment was being passed.
He further alleged that some of his party members were coerced at gunpoint and subjected to other forms of duress to secure their votes.
Ayub called these actions deeply troubling and in violation of democratic principles.
Addressing Ayub’s concerns, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq acknowledged the gravity of the accusations but maintained that it was not within his power to restrict where members sit or how they vote.
Sadiq assured the assembly that he would review the footage to identify any individuals involved in improper conduct and would take appropriate action based on the findings. The session was marked by a low attendance of members.
