Federal govt hikes house rent of its employees by 45%

The federal government has increased the house rent limit for all its employees in grades 1 to 22 by 45 percent for six cities, the highest increase being for Islamabad.
According to a report, as per the notification issued by the Ministry of Housing and Works, the limit applies to the rental houses for the staff and officers of the federal ministries, divisions, attached departments and sub-offices in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar.
Under the revised rates, the rent ceiling for Grade 22 employees in Islamabad has been increased to Rs142,743 per month and for all other cities (four provincial capitals and Rawalpindi) to Rs125,989. Their earlier limit was Rs98,444 and Rs89,230 per month respectively.
The house rent limit for grade 21 government employees has been increased from Rs82,261 to Rs119,278 in Islamabad and from Rs71,107 to Rs98,378 per month for other cities.
Similarly, the rent limit for grade 20 employees in Islamabad has been increased from Rs68,700 to Rs99,615 per month and for other cities from Rs59,079 to Rs82,696 per month.
Grade 19 officers will be entitled to Rs79,320 and Rs65,542 per month for Islamabad and other cities, respectively, against the earlier limits of Rs54,704 and Rs46,816 per month.
Apart from this, the rent limit for grade 17 and 18 employees has been fixed at Rs59,669 in Islamabad and Rs49,808 in other cities.
The rent for grade 14 to 16 employees has been fixed at Rs45,073 per month in Islamabad and Rs37,665 per month for other cities, which is currently Rs31,085 and Rs27,134 per month respectively.
Similarly, government employees of grades 11 to 13 will be able to get Rs35,878 per month in Islamabad and Rs30,815 per month in other cities.
The fare limit for federal employees of grades 7 to 10 has been increased from Rs16,403 to Rs23,784 for Islamabad and from Rs14,682 to Rs20,112 for other citizens.
Similarly, federal employees of grades 3 to 6 will now be able to get Rs15,921 for house rent in Islamabad and Rs13,230 for other cities.
The rent for Grade 1 and 2 employees will now be Rs10,192 per month in Islamabad and Rs9,590 per month in other cities.
