Govt okays allocation of Rs330 million for provision of quality drugs in Islamabad

In order to ensure the provision of quality drugs in Islamabad, the Ministry of Health has approved the allocation of Rs330 million for the Drug Control Administration, the Health Department to be built in Islamabad, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
According to the ministry officials, the quality testing of the drugs supplied by government hospitals would also be done.
They have said that besides that, the quality of medicines available at pharmacies and medical stores in the federal capital will also be checked.
Coordinator to Prime Minister on Health Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, on the other hand, has said that the number of drug inspectors would be increased from three to six.
He has informed that close to 1,500 departments related to sales are working in the city. “The Drug Control Administration Department will be provided five vehicles for field monitoring,” he has explained.
Apart from that, Dr. Mukhtar has said, a vigilance center would also be built in the federal capital at which special officers will be appointed.
The coordinator to the PM has further said that deaths from adverse drug reactions occurred the world over. “These centers will also collect the data of the incidents of drug reactions,” he has said, adding, “Reforms are being introduced in the health sector on a large scale.”
