IHC summons IB, FIA DGs in audio leaks case on Feb 19

The Islamabad High Court has summoned Intelligence Bureau DG and Federal Investigation Agency DG in their personal capacity on February 19 in the audio leaks case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Islamabad High Court on Saturday released a 7-page written order authored by Justice Babar Sattar on the petitions of former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar's son Najam Saqib and former Prime Minister Imran Khan's wife Bushra Bibi against the audio leaks.
In its order, the court summoned director generals of the IB and FIA to the court on February 19, 2024 in a personal capacity.
According to the order, the Attorney General said that the federal government did not allow any intelligence agency to record telephone calls. The Attorney General said that it is important to protect the privacy and rights of all citizens. Who released audio leaks on social media? The FIA has sought time to respond. The court ordered that the FIA should submit a report detailing the social media accounts sharing the audio leaks.
In the court order, it has been said that the FIA DG should appear and explain how the surveillance and recording of phone calls can be done. During the hearing, the ISI submitted its report on the audio leaks through the Ministry of Defence, according to which the ISI does not have the technology to determine the source of information shared on social media. The Intelligence Bureau should conduct an inquiry and submit a report on which accounts the audio leaks were shared.
Islamabad High Court ordered to submit details of social media accounts sharing audio of illegally recorded calls. The IB DG should tell who can do surveillance of citizens in Pakistan? Also tell whether the state of Pakistan has the ability to remain safe from illegal surveillance.
