Despite back-to-back anti-vaccination campaigns, Pakistan’s second-largest city, the political capital of the country, still could not be made free of poliovirus, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The virus has been confirmed in the sewerage after testing several samples taken from different areas of the provincial capital. These areas included Lahore’s Outfall Road, Gulshan Ravi and Multan Road Disposal Station.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) has confirmed the presence of the virus in all the samples.
It has also been revealed that polio drops were not administered in some areas of Lahore during the anti-vaccination campaign.
The lapse was surfaced during the scrutinization of the exercise. The campaign in two union councils of the Allama Iqbal Town was declared a failure along with in one union council each of Cantonment and Aziz Bhatti Town.
