The Supreme Court (SC) Thursday asked the Attorney General to submit a report on the living conditions of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in jail by August 28, 2023.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the apex court heard an appeal filed by Imran Khan against his conviction and sentence by a trial court and issued the written orders for the hearing.
According to the written order of the SC, Advocate Latif Khosa informed the hearing of the Tosha Khana case in the Islamabad High Court.
The written order also said it would be appropriate for the Supreme Court to wait for the decision of the Islamabad High Court.
During the hearing on Thursday, Latif Khosa argued that the trial court had ignored the order of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and made errors in its judgment.
Latif Khosa also raised questions about the jurisdiction and validity of the complaint filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against his client [Imran Khan].
Pertinent to mention here that the trial court of Judge Hamayun Dilawar had found Imran Khan guilty of providing false details to the ECP and engaging in corrupt practices.
Imran Khan is serving a three-year prison term for his involvement in the Tosha Khana case, which pertains to the illegal acquisition of gifts like watches from foreign countries.
Interestingly, the Tosha Khana case also involves former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former President Asif Ali Zardari, who are accused of receiving luxury vehicles and gifts worth millions of rupees from foreign countries without paying any duty. Both Sharif and Zardari have been declared absconders by the trial court.
