First Omicron case detected in Islamabad

Islamabad has reported the first case of Omicron variant of coronavirus, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel on Saturday.
The development was confirmed by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat on his Twitter handle.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Zaeem Zia informed that the Omicron variant was diagnosed in an Islamabad resident. He said that the citizen did not have a history to travel abroad. The health teams are ready to deal with the Omicron variant, added Dr Zia.
The DHO also urged the citizens to take every possible precaution and receive a booster shot if eligible.
Earlier, six more cases of highly mutated variant of Covid-19 were reported in Karachi, taking the total number of infections in the provincial captial to eight. All the patients had returned to Pakistan from abroad. Meanwhile, 32 suspected cases of the new variant were detected in Balochistan area of Kalat.
