India violated the Indus Water Treaty again and announced 6 new hydropower projects on the River Indus illegally.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, Pakistan has informed the Indian Indus Water Commission of its concerns over the construction of six controversial projects.
The report said India is constructing hydropower projects including Durbuk Shyok (19 MW), Shankoo (18.5 MW), Nimu Chilling (24 MW), Mangdum Sangra (19 MW), Kargil Hunderman (25 MW) and Tamasha (12 MW).
The Pakistani Indus Water Commissioner has made correspondence with his Indian counterpart at the official level to convey the concerns.
It is worth mentioning that a delegation of the Indian Indus Water Commission headed by commissioner PK Saxena is expected to visit Pakistan for the annual meeting in March 2022.
Pertinent to mention here that India cannot build a storage facility of more than 3.65 million acre-feet of water on the western rivers due to which the flow of the western rivers may change.
