Bangladesh were 47-5 in their second innings at stumps on the third day, chasing a target of 511 runs in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Sylhet on Sunday.
Vishwa Fernando claimed 3-13 after Sri Lanka were earlier all out for 418 in their second innings, with Kamindu Mendis making 164 and Dhananjaya de Silva adding 108.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed 4-74 for Bangladesh.
