Former Pakistan cricket captain and renowned all-rounder Shahid Afridi has shared his predictions for the semi-finalists of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. T
he much-anticipated tournament is set to take place from June 1 to 29 across venues in the USA and the West Indies.
In a video released by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Afridi picked Pakistan, Australia, India and New Zealand as the four teams he thinks would go on to the knockout stage.
“I feel Pakistan should play the final. I’ll go with Australia, India and in those conditions, I will go with New Zealand,” stated Afridi.
Afridi, who was recently appointed as the ambassador for the T20 World Cup, joins a prestigious group of sports personalities, including sprint legend Usain Bolt, West Indies cricket star Chris Gayle, and Indian cricket hero Yuvraj Singh, in promoting the global event.
Afridi, known for his charismatic presence on and off the field, expressed his delight at being chosen as an ambassador. He reminisced about his remarkable journey in the T20 World Cups, notably his Player of the Tournament performance and the unforgettable victory in 2009 World Cup when he led Pakistan to lift the trophy.
"The T20 World Cup holds a special place in my heart," Afridi stated. "It's a platform where I've experienced some of the most memorable moments of my career."
Looking ahead to the 2024 edition, Afridi highlighted the expansion of the tournament, promising more teams, more matches, and heightened excitement.
He specifically pointed to the India vs. Pakistan match on June 9 as a highlight, anticipating the electric atmosphere in New York for this storied rivalry.
