The cotton price has increased by Rs1,000 to Rs17,500 per 40kg, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
“We are facing limited availability of quality cotton,” Cotton Ginners Forum Chairman Ehsanul Haq said.
“The rise in the value of the dollar is the reason behind the increase in cotton prices,” he added.
“In the ECC meeting, the purchase of cotton by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) was not even discussed,” he stated.
“If there is no plan to purchase cotton at the official price, the cotton prices may fall again,” he added.
“The cotton cultivation can be affected next year if the TCP does not start cotton purchase,” he showed concern.
