The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa, while hearing a 26-year-old property dispute case on Wednesday, emphasised the need to end the practice of depriving women of their inheritance rights.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, a three-member bench, headed by the Chief Justice, presided over the case involving a 456-kanal property dispute in Chakwal. During the hearing, the CJP urged lawyers to avoid taking up false cases that perpetuate injustice.

As per the details of the case, the court ordered the immediate transfer of the inheritance property to Shamim Akhtar, a resident of Chakwal, whose legal battle had been ongoing for 26 years.

Additionally, the court imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 on the opposing party for filing false testimonies and engaging in bogus litigation.

The court also ordered that the fine must be paid within three months, and in case of non-payment, the Revenue Department has been directed to recover the amount from the opposing party’s property.

Chief Justice Isa remarked, "Enough is enough; the case has been dragged on for 26 years, and whoever wants to unjustly holds onto the property."

The dispute arose after Shamim Akhtar’s husband, Mehrban, passed away in 1998, leaving behind a property conflict with his second wife and nephews, who falsely claimed the property had been gifted to them.
