Footage shows woman blew herself up outside Confucius Institute

CCTV footage showed the burqa-clad woman standing outside the Confucius Institute blew herself up when the van carrying Chinese nationals passed by.

Rescuers, lawmen, and a bomb disposal squad reached the spot and started an investigation.  Rangers are also seen coming on a motorcycle. Reports said lawmen too sustained injuries in the attack.  

Although a banned outfit from Baluchistan claimed the responsibility, the woman’s identity has not been ascertained so far. 

The Bomb Disposal Squad prepared a preliminary probe report, stating that up to four kg of explosive material was used in the blast.

Ball bearings were also found from the scene, it pointed out. In February, nine soldiers embraced martyrdom in four days of attacks across two locations in the province, of Baluchistan.

China is upgrading energy links and infrastructure as part of a $54 billion programme known as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, with both nations wary of security threats to the projects.

 In April 2021 a suicide bomb attack at a luxury hotel hosting the Chinese ambassador in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, killed four and wounded dozens.
