Punjab Assembly Speaker Parvez Elahi has scolded Law Minister Raja Basharat for not keeping his word about presenting the Punjab Emergency Service (Amendment) Bill.

In the last session, Parvez Elahi suggested some amendments and the minister promised that the amended draft would be submitted to the session.

He came down hard on the law ministry for failure to keep his word, saying: “As the house custodian, it is my duty to do what I have promised. It can’t be ignored.  If we do not respect the house, all will suffer ultimately.

“Rescue 1122 is a state organ that has proved itself and got UN recognition. We understand our duty and we have to follow the discipline to maintain dignity.”  

He said for the last six months the committee has been working on the service structure of the rescuers and a promised was made during the last session that the bill would be presented.

The speaker adjourned the session for March 1 and said the session will not move ahead till the amended draft is not presented

A couple of days ago, Punjab Assembly Speaker Parvez Elahi came down hard on the last government for paying no heed to the service that added problems of the rescuers who help human beings get out of problems.

He insisted that the department must be provided with more autonomy and proper service structure and regularisation.
