The spillways of Islamabad’s Rawal Dam have been opened after the water level in it reached 1,750 feet following heavy monsoon rains, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
As per the official sources, the spillways of the 861-acre lake [Rawal Dam] will remain open until the water level drops by one foot at least.
It merits a mention here that Section 144 has already been imposed on bathing in rivers and dams.
Before opening the spillways, a siren was sounded to alert the nearby population.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon said, “Due to the monsoon season, the water level in Rawal Dam has reached its highest level.”
He added, “Rescue teams have been put on high alert in the surrounding areas.”
He appealed to the citizens to avoid going to drains and rivers near Rawal Dam, stating: “Take care of yourself and your children.”
He also appealed to the citizens living around drains to be careful, warning that a stern action would be taken in case of violation of Section 144.
Besides, heavy rain with gusty winds and thunderstorm is likely in Islamabad, according to the Meteorological Department.
