Heavy rain with thunder and windstorm on Sunday subsided the prevailing heat wave conditions in most parts of Pakistan which started last week, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

The rain broke the spell of extremely hot weather in Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has already predicted pre-monsoon rains with dust thunderstorms in upper and central parts of the country alongside occasional gaps from Sunday to Friday.

Under the influence of this weather system, rain accompanied by wind-thundershower with few heavy falls occurred in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur and Peshawar Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, M B Din, Sialkot, Pasrur, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh with occasional gaps.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), cloudy weather is expected in the Upper/Central parts of the country during the next 24 hours with rain-wind/thunderstorms in North Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Upper/Central Punjab, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The temperature will drop in the next few days, experts said, adding that from June 25 to June 30, the system prevails.

However, it also caused disruption of electricity in parts of the province as several feeders of the major cities tripped, plunging various parts of the country into darkness.

Heavy rain coupled with a dust storm under the influence of a strong westerly system in Lahore also turned the weather pleasant and brought the mercury considerably down.

The rain was reported from parts of the city including Lakshmi Chowk, Mall Raod, Paniwala Talab, Jail Road, Model Town, Gulberg, Garden Town, Kalma Chowk, Sanda, Gulshan Ravi, Shimla Hill, Data Darbar, Town Ship, Green Town, Gulshan Ravi, Johar Town, Samanabad, and several other localities.

The Met office said that the current spell of rain will continue till tomorrow (Monday).

Earlier, the temperature was recorded at 38 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature will go up to 27 degrees and the maximum temperature will go up to 38 degrees throughout the day, Met Office said.

Meanwhile, rainwater after a heavy downpour entered the houses in Ziarat. It has caused traffic jams in the city.

After the rain, the canals overflowed, and the under-construction bus stand in Ziarat City was submerged due to flood water.

People have been struggling to maintain their daily life activities after rain and stormy winds. The flow of traffic was suspended due to water from rivers, gravel, and mud coming on the roads.

Tourists, passenger vehicles, and transport are stuck due to traffic suspension.

Likewise, heavy rain lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Sunday bringing a much-needed respite from the heatwave.

Last week, the mercury had remained above 40 degrees Celsius with a maximum of 42 degrees recorded on Wednesday (June 21) and Thursday (June 22).

The rain brought the temperature down from 41 degrees Celsius on Saturday afternoon to 28 degrees.

Karachi weather also turns pleasant after a light rain.

The capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Muzaffarabad and surrounding mountainous areas were also hit by a new spell of rains forcing people to remain indoors.

The townships of Muzaffarabad, Hattian, Kahori, Ghari Dopatta, Ghari, Habibullah, Bagh, Dheerkot, Rawalakot, Hajira, and Plundari received heavy showers.

The tents of the cattle market set up in Pasrur were uprooted due to windstorms and rain. The sacrificial animals stood in water due to a lack of drainage in the market.

The tehsil administration officials did not pay any heed to the miseries of the animal breeders.  The traders fixed their tents and drained the rainwater with their own resources.
